The Power of Pausing

When I walk into my studio, I usually pause for a second. The day’s been full of other things, but I know I want to spend some time with my inks. I stand at my table, taking it all in—the colors, the setup—and noticing (again) how I always seem to reach for greens and blues.

I’ll close my eyes for a moment and rest my hands on the metal sheet, just trying to clear my head. I don’t picture anything specific—it’s more of a feeling. A little pocket of calm before I begin. Then I open my eyes, pick my colors, and just start. That’s when everything else fades out.

Some people call it flow. For me, it’s just my version of quiet—my place to be without expectations or to-do lists running in the background. No pressure, no noise. Just me, the colors, and a blank “canvas.” I really value that time. Life gets busy, and having something that lets you step away for a bit feels important.I get to create what I want here, and I treasure that time. Life is demanding for all of us, and it feels important to find something that offers a true pause.
